More Margaret River outings

I went for an early am walk in search of a kangaroo. No luck but saw black cockatoos eating nuts. Of course the amazing profusion of flowers.

After breakfast we set out early to drive further south to to Cape lee win. We stopped for coffee at Hayshed winery. Despite the call for a rainy day, blue skies prevailed. The blue wrens were jumping about.

Then it was onto Gralyn winery to try some fortified wine, and then The Provender, an herb farm that has spices, mustards and other goodie. They also carry Coward and Black wines.

A third winery, Felix Vasse had terrific gardens and that was where I saw the Kookabura surveying the vines.

We finally began the drive south! The area has extensive cave systems. Collapses long ago have created large dips which have big and tall Tingle and Karri trees. The karri tree is not related to the New Zealand Kauri.

We stopped in Augusta for lunch at a bakery that specialized in meat pies.

We were driving along the coast and at Augusta could see the ocean. The Cape Leewin light house used to be powered by a water wheel. At the beachside where it was, we could see whales spouting and a pod of dolphins swam by. If you look closely you can see one dolphin fin in the water.

The lighthouse is beautiful. Andrew and Michael climbed to the top while Pauline and I watched many spouting whales. The whales, Right and Humpbacks are on migration to feeding grounds. Apparently they are being seen in greater numbers than usual. We will probably go on a whale watch when we drive down south.

We stopped in MargaretRiver on the way back eating an early dinner at The Spagetti Bowl and then back to our cabin in the woods.
